Ashtakoota (Guṇa Milan)
The eight-fold 36-guṇa matching used to gauge marriage compatibility between two birth stars.
What it means
Ashtakoota (guṇa milan) scores eight kūṭas — Varṇa, Vaśya, Tārā, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gaṇa, Bhakūṭa and Nāḍī — from the two birth nakshatras and Moon signs, out of a maximum 36. A total of 18+ is usually treated as acceptable, but the app also checks Manglik status and frames the result as advisory, not a pass/fail on a relationship.
How it's computed
compatibility.ts applies the classical eight-kūṭa tables to the two charts' Moon nakshatra and rāśi; Yoni and Vaśya use transparent simplified gradings (documented), and the total is bounded 0–36.
Deterministic, license-clean engine (astronomy-engine, VSOP87-grade; Lahiri ayanāṁśa). The AI advisor only narrates these computed facts — it never invents chart data.
